How do I prepare my quilt top?

Your quilt top must lay flat AND be square in order for the quilting not to pucker.   Loose threads should be clipped, and the quilt top ironed and loosely folded. Borders should not be "wavy."

And the backing fabric?

Your backing may be pieced or it may be one single piece of fabric.  I currently quilt with the same color thread on top and bottom, so choose the backing fabric accordingly.

Above  all, all edges must be trimmed equally and it must be square.  If you have a design element in the back (a pieced portion), please be aware that it can be difficult to center it or align it  to the quilt top.  Please place a safety pin at the top of the backing to align it to the quilt top.

What size backing  is needed?

The backing must be 8+″ larger than the quilt top.  In other words, if
the quilt top is 62″x80″, then the backing must be at least
70"x88″.

What about batting?

The batting must be 8+″ larger than the quilt top as well.   Batting should not be pieced.  SuZquilts can supply Quilters Dream Cotton, wool, and  80/20 blend batting. Other brands are available upon request.  I do not quilt 100% polyester batting, and recommend Fire Retardant Quilt Batting for crib  and childrens' quilts.

I like a particular quilting design (pantograph or pattern)? Can you quilt it?

I have many designs already, and can obtain almost any digital design upon request.  I can also recommend some great sites with designs that stitch out well.

Computerized, or digital designs, can also be resized to "fit" your quilt.

How is thread selected?

SuZquilts currently uses OMNI thread, by Superior, and it comes in 172 colors.  SuZquilts will select a color that enhances your quilt  top and creates the look you have in mind (blending or contrasting).
